Ambassador of Japan to Bangladesh Iwama Kiminori and Secretary of the Economic Relations Division at the Ministry of Finance Md. Shahriar Kader Siddiky signed an exchange of notes for a Japanese grant aid titled “the Project for Human Resource Development Scholarship (JDS)” amounting to JPY 495 million, approximately USD 3 million.

Following this bilateral agreement, ICHIGUCHI Tomohide, Chief Representative of the JICA Bangladesh Office, and Ms. Sharifa Khan signed the corresponding grant agreement.

Since its initiation in 2002, the JDS scheme has enabled 507 Bangladeshi officials to pursue master’s degrees and 18 officials to obtain doctoral degrees in Japan.

In the Japanese Fiscal Year 2024, Bangladesh ranked second globally in the number of JDS fellows.

“Bangladesh aims to reach developed country status in less than 20 years. The role of government officials is crucial to achieving this goal. I believe our support for Bangladeshi government officials since 2002 has significantly contributed to the country’s development. I hope our grant aid will continue to foster young officials and accelerate Bangladesh’s progress for another 20 years,” said Ambassador Iwama.
