Prof Yunus Pledges Support for Industrial Growth

Chief Adviser Professor Dr. Muhammad Yunus assured business leaders today of full support in elevating Bangladesh’s industrial growth. During a meeting at the State Guest House Jamuna, Yunus emphasized the Interim Government’s commitment to reforming the industry, finance, and manufacturing sectors in light of the recent student-led revolution that has sparked renewed hope in the nation.

The business delegation, led by Mahbubur Rahman, President of the International Chamber of Commerce, Bangladesh, expressed concerns over recent unrest in the garment and pharmaceutical sectors, attributing the disturbances to external instigators. They urged the government to enhance security in industrial zones to protect the country’s image.

In response, Yunus assured the delegation that his government is dedicated to safeguarding industries from violence and attacks, highlighting the importance of protecting factories. He also called on industry leaders to implement labor reforms in line with International Labour Organization (ILO) standards to attract more orders from global brands and investors.

Yunus mentioned his discussions with top business CEOs worldwide, who have shown interest in investing in Bangladesh and increasing orders from its manufacturers.

The meeting was attended by prominent business figures, including Tapan Chowdhury, Managing Director of Square Pharmaceuticals; AK Azad, former FBCCI president; Mir Nasir Hossain, former FBCCI president; Khondker Rafiqul Islam, President of the BGMEA; and Naser Ezaz Bijoy, Managing Director of Standard Chartered Bangladesh.
