PM Sheikh Hasina Invites Sri Lankan Investment in Bangladesh Tourism

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina today sought Sri Lankan investment in Bangladesh’s tourism sector, emphasizing mutual benefits for both nations.

During a courtesy meeting with Sri Lankan President Ranil Wickremesinghe in New Delhi this morning, Hasina made the request. Both leaders had attended the swearing-in ceremony of India’s newly elected Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday.

Foreign Minister Hasan Mahmud shared details with reporters after the meeting, stating, “A discussion was held on how Sri Lankan investment can come to Bangladesh in its tourism sector as Sri Lanka is much ahead in tourism.”

The two leaders also engaged in a detailed conversation on mutual cooperation in agriculture and maritime sectors. Mahmud noted, “The meeting was just a courtesy call. But the entire gamut of bilateral relations was discussed elaborately.”

Expressing gratitude, the Sri Lankan president thanked Prime Minister Hasina for the financial assistance provided to his country during a critical time.

During the meeting, Hasina extended an invitation to President Wickremesinghe to visit Bangladesh. In response, the Sri Lankan president expressed his desire to visit but mentioned that his country is heading towards an election.

The briefing was attended by Foreign Secretary Masud Bin Momen and PM’s Press Secretary M Nayeemul Islam Khan.
