Holy Shab-e-Meraj to be observed on Feb 8

Shab-e-Meraj

The observance of the holy Shab-e-Meraj on the night of February 8 (Thursday) has been confirmed, following the non-sighting of the moon for the Hijri month of Rajab (1445 Hijri) across the country. The decision was made during a meeting of the National Moon Sighting Committee at the Islamic Foundation at Baitul Mukarram, chaired by Md Naib Ali Mandal, Joint Secretary of the Ministry of Religious Affairs. The Holy Rajab month is set to commence from Sunday, January 14, as per the committee’s decision.

Muslims commemorate Shab-e-Meraj every year on the night of Rajab 26, recalling the special journey of Prophet Hazrat Muhammad (peace be upon him) to meet Allah. During this journey, the Prophet traveled on the “Buraq” to Heaven, where Allah bestowed upon him instructions to convey to the devoted followers regarding the details of prayers. On this auspicious night, Muslim devotees engage in special prayers at mosques and homes, seeking Allah’s blessings for the welfare of the entire nation and the Muslim Ummah.
