The Australian High Commissioner to Bangladesh, Jeremy Bruer, reaffirmed his government’s commitment to providing ongoing humanitarian aid to the Rohingya people and supporting Bangladesh’s stance on the repatriation of displaced individuals to Myanmar. During his farewell call on Foreign Secretary Masud Bin Momen at the foreign ministry, Bruer emphasized Australia’s dedication to addressing the Rohingya crisis.

In response, Foreign Secretary Masud expressed gratitude for Australia’s unwavering support on the Rohingya issue and reiterated the importance of ensuring the safe and secure repatriation of Rohingya to Myanmar as the primary solution to the crisis.

Bruer also commended Bangladesh’s development achievements and the substantial bilateral trade volume between the two countries. Foreign Secretary Masud conveyed his satisfaction with the current state of cooperation in trade, commerce, education, and people-to-people contacts.

Masud highlighted the significant potential for further engagement, suggesting opportunities for collaboration in skill development, the blue economy, energy security, and addressing the adverse impacts of climate change. He also extended appreciation to Australia for ensuring continued Duty-Free Quota-Free (DFQF) access for Bangladeshi products to the Australian market, even after Bangladesh’s graduation from the Least Developed Country (LDC) group in 2026. The discussions reflected a mutual commitment to strengthening ties and addressing shared challenges between Australia and Bangladesh.
