Shakib Al Hasan Dropped as BSEC Ambassador

Shakib Al Hasan

The Bangladesh Securities and Exchange Commission (BSEC) has removed cricketer Shakib Al Hasan from his role as the goodwill ambassador for the commission. The decision was made during BSEC’s 916th commission meeting held on Wednesday, August 28.

BSEC stated that the urgent meeting resulted in the termination of Shakib’s appointment as the goodwill ambassador for the commission’s nationwide investment education program. Shakib Al Hasan was initially appointed to this role in 2017 by the then BSEC Chairman, M Khairul Hossain, during the inaugural ceremony of World Investor Week at the Shilpakala Academy in Dhaka.

Despite a leadership change at BSEC in 2020, when Professor Shibli Rubayat-Ul-Islam took over, Shakib was retained as the goodwill ambassador. During Shibli’s tenure, Shakib also emerged as a prominent investor in the stock market.
