Murder Case Filed Against Hasina, Shamim Osman, and 46 Others in Narayanganj

A murder case has been lodged against former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, Shamim Osman, and 46 others in Narayanganj in connection with the fatal shooting of Abul Hasan Swajan, 25. The case, filed by Swajan’s brother, Abul Bashar Anik, at the Sadar Model Police Station on the night of August 17, implicates 48 named individuals and an additional 150-200 unnamed persons, including high-profile political figures.

Abdus Sattar, the officer-in-charge at Sadar Model Police Station, confirmed the registration of the case.

Among the accused are former government leaders, including Sheikh Hasina, former Minister of Bridges Obaidul Quader, former Foreign Minister Hasan Mahmud, former Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal, and former State Minister for ICT Zunaid Ahmed Palak. Others named include former MPs Shamim Osman and Selim Osman, along with notable local figures such as District Awami League Secretary Abu Hasnat Shahid Badal, Shamim Osman’s son Ayan Osman, and various leaders and activists from the Awami League, Chhatra League, Jubo League, and Jatiya Party.

The case documents state that Ayan Osman allegedly shot Swajan in Narayanganj’s Chashara area on August 5, following instructions from Shamim and Selim Osman. Swajan, who was shot in the chest, succumbed to his injuries on August 6 while receiving treatment at Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH).

Speaking on the matter, the plaintiff, Anik, disclosed that the decision to file the case was made after consultations with metropolitan BNP leaders earlier in the day. The police accepted the case immediately upon its submission that evening.
