Economist Masrur Reaz Rejects BSEC Chairman Role

Masrur Reaz

Eminent economist Dr. Masrur Reaz has declined the offer to become the chairman of the Bangladesh Securities Exchange Commission (BSEC).

In a statement released to the media today, August 17, Dr. Reaz expressed his gratitude to the interim government for considering him for the position, which would have entrusted him with the responsibility of overseeing the nation’s stock market. However, he emphasized that he believes his expertise and contributions would be more impactful in his current role as an economist.

“The role of BSEC chairman presents a significant opportunity to participate in the restructuring of state institutions, and I deeply value the nation’s interests above all else,” Dr. Reaz stated.

“However, under the present circumstances, I am convinced that I can contribute more effectively to the country and its economy as an economist. In my current capacity, I can formulate efficient economic policies, reform the existing economic framework by analyzing trade, investments, and the financial sector, and facilitate dialogues on these critical matters. For these reasons, I have decided not to take up the role of BSEC Chairman,” he added.
