NBR Announces Tax Exemption for Locally Manufactured Computer Parts

nbr vat

The National Board of Revenue (NBR) has announced the removal of the existing 3% advance tax (AT) on the import of accessories for locally manufactured computers, effective until 2026. The exemption covers various items, including computers, printers, laptops, RAM, routers, network switches, hard disks, pen drives, CCTV, monitors not exceeding 22 inches, projectors, data cables, loaded PCBs, and more.

The NBR issued a notification on January 4, published on January 13, outlining the tax relief for these imported computer-related accessories. While the import of accessories and parts for local computer manufacturing is presently exempt from value-added tax (VAT) until June 2026, the AT exemption marks a further incentive for the industry.

It’s worth noting that although ATs are theoretically adjustable later (refundable), practical challenges and regulatory complications may cause delays or make adjustments unattainable in certain cases. The move aims to facilitate and promote the importation of essential components for local computer manufacturing, contributing to the growth of the industry in Bangladesh.
